Responsabilities:
Its mandate is to coordinate the development of environmental policy consensus by keeping the global environment under review and bringing emerging issues to the attention of governments and the international community for action.
Competencies:
Professionalism - Demonstrated professional competency and mastery of the subject of marine and coastal environmental science with particular focus to NOWPAP and its projects.

Qualifications:
Education:
Advanced university degree in marine or freshwater related science, or other degree in the field of the environment coupled with the relevant experience in Marine Pollution and Land-based Activities (LBAs)
Experience:
5 years of overall experience, in formulation and co-ordination of Marine Pollution and Integrated Coastal Area Management. Familiarity with the UN system would be an advantage.
Languages:
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Knowledge of a second official UN language is an advantage and knowledge of at least one language of the region is desirable (Russian, Chinese, Korean, Japanese).
Others:
Ability to cope with several projects in an organized and timely manner; ability to supervise project implementation conducted by different partners and ability to monitor progress and adjust projects accordingly are important assets.
