Responsabilities:
Assist the Director in the delivery of UNEP’s programme of work on climate change in the region; b) Monitor trends and developments in the region as well as policy initiatives within UNEP to determine regional priorities.
Competencies:
Professionalism: Solid knowledge of climate change science and policy issues. Proven knowledge of U.S. and Canadian climate change policies; Shows persistence when facing difficult problems and challenges and is conscientious and efficient.

Qualifications:
Education:
An advanced university degree in environmental policy, economics, political science or relevant scientific fields. A first university degree in combination with qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced degree.
Experience:
At least 5 years progressively responsible working experience in a field related to climate change. Some project management experience beneficial.
Languages:
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the post advertised, Fluency in oral and written English is essential. Working knowledge of another UN language, particulary French, would be an asset.
Others:
Strong familiarity of main actors in climate change policy-making in North America Relevant knowledge of institutional mandates, policies and guidelines is desirable.
